Introduction
Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences and Health Services was established in 1988. However, the foundation of this university was laid earlier in 1975 with the establishment of the Higher School of Midwifery in Sari, which was later expanded in 1986 as the first educational center in the field of healthcare. In 1988, this school was upgraded to the Nasibe School of Nursing and Midwifery in Sari. Following that, the School of Medicine in Babol was founded in 1985, the School of Medicine in Sari in 1988, and the School of Medicine in Gorgan in 1992. After the separation of Golestan Province in 1997 and the independence of Babol University of Medical Sciences in 1991, Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences was officially establis-hed in Sari as its central campus. Currently, Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences and Health Services operates through eight vice-chancellorships: Education, Treatment, Health, Research and Technology, Food and Drug, Social Affairs, Student and Cultural Affairs, and Management and Resource Development. With more than 19,000 employees, the university provides healthcare services to over 3 million residents of the province, as well as a large number of travelers, through 1,110 rural health houses, 315 health and treatment centers, 54 healthcare bases, 21 health and treatment networks and centers, and 25 hospitals.
Ranking
Since 2019, when Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences launched its International Branch, the university has achieved a high scientific standing both in Iran and globally. The establishment of this international division not only enabled the university to attract foreign students but also provided opportunities to enhance its academic ranking through organizing international conferences, virtual meetings, and inviting professors and researchers from leading universities and research institutes around the world. It is worth mentioning that Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, in addition to establishing several research and scientific centers, benefits from a distinguished faculty body. This serves as a reassuring factor for those who wish to study at the university, ensuring a reliable and academically enriching environment. According to the 2023 Shanghai Ranking in the field of Clinical Medicine, the university was placed in the 201–300 range, positioning it among the top three medical universities in Iran. Furthermore, in the field of Public Health, it achieved a ranking within the 301–400 range, confirming its reputation as one of Iran’s leading institutions in this discipline. In addition, based on the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences secured a position in the 601–800 range globally. Similarly, according to the ISC (Islamic World Science Citation Center) ranking system, the university has been ranked within the 501–600 range.

Welfare Facilities
The welfare facilities of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, like those of many leading universities in Iran, are impressive and well-developed. In addition to its extensive research centers—which are among its distinctive features—the university provides various amenities to support student comfort and well-being. The university has three dormitories, including Dormitory No. 1 for female students and Dormitories No. 7 and No. 8 for male students. Moreover, it offers a range of sports and recreational facilities, such as two indoor multipurpose sports halls, a shooting range, a gym, an artificial turf football field, a natural grass field with a running track, and the Zeytoon Public Dining Hall (commonly known as Zeytoon Self-Service), all designed to ensure a comfortable and vibrant campus life for students.
