Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences (KUMS) began its activities in 1968 with the establishment of the Higher School of Nursing. In 1975, it was expanded into a School of Medicine, marking the beginning of its dedicated service to the people of western Iran. Following the victory of the Islamic Revolution, in 1985, the School of Medicine evolved into Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences and Health Services, gaining greater strength and organization.
Since then, the university has not only focused on education and healthcare services but has also made significant efforts in research, innovation, and the advancement of medical and paramedical sciences.
Currently, KUMS includes seven vice-chancellors’ offices, eight faculties, seven educational and medical centers in Kermanshah city, ten hospitals in other towns, and fourteen health and treatment networks across the counties of Kermanshah, Eslamabad-e Gharb, Paveh, Salas Babajani, Javanrud, Dalahu, Ravansar, Sarpol-e Zahab, Sonqor, Sahneh, Qasr-e Shirin, Kangavar, Gilan-e Gharb, and Harsin. The university employs 14,330 staff members and has 500 academic faculty members.

  • Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences offers all major medical specialties.
  • The university hosts 24 subspecialties in various medical fields, including unique and advanced specialties such as cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, and pediatric urology, which are rarely available in western Iran.
  • Imam Reza Educational and Medical Center serves as a regional referral hospital for western Iran and has achieved the highest national evaluation grade (Grade 1 – Excellent).
  • Imam Ali Subspecialty Center for Cardiovascular Surgery operates as a leading heart surgery center in the region.

Student Welfare and Facilities

Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences provides a wide range of welfare and support services for its students, achieving a high overall satisfaction rating. The university has eight dormitories, including five for female students, two for male students, and one for married students, all equipped with the necessary facilities for a comfortable student life. In addition, the university offers various financial and social support services such as student insurance, student loans, marriage loans, and housing loans, ensuring students’ well-being throughout their studies.
The university also provides excellent sports and recreational facilities, including a football field, tennis hall, wrestling hall, gym, badminton hall, and a central library. Regarding dining services, students can easily reserve their meals online through the university’s food service system, which provides meals throughout the week.
