Introduction
The first modern center for medical education in Iran was established in 1851 (1230 in the Persian calendar) as part of the Dar ul-Funun School. The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1934. After the Islamic Revolution, it became part of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), separating from the Ministry of Higher Education and coming under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. Today, the university has 99 research centers and is considered one of the leading universities in Iran.

Ranking
According to the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) is ranked in the 501–600 range worldwide. It is also noteworthy that TUMS holds the first place among all medical universities in Iran.
