Introduction
Golestan University of Medical Sciences is a medical university located in the city of Gorgan, Golestan Province. This institution began its educational activities in 1967 under the name Booyeh School of Nursing in the Gorgan and Dasht region. Until 1997, it operated under the supervision of Mazandaran University; however, following the administrative separation of the two provinces in that year, it became an independent institution under the title Golestan University of Medical Sciences, assuming responsibility for providing health and medical services in Golestan Province. At present, the university has 3,949 students and 333 faculty members.
Ranking
According to the Times Higher Education ranking in 2023, Golestan University of Medical Sciences achieved a top position among Iranian universities. It was recognized as the best university in Iran and ranked among the world’s top universities within the 351–400 range. Furthermore, based on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, the university obtained a ranking in the 801–1000 category.
